Why do we do Scientific Investigation ?

 That’s Easy, Creditability

How do you do Scientific investigations? That's not as Easy

A scientific Investigation is more than just using cameras and EMF detectors. The Real Scientific Investigation is more CSI than Ghost Adventures. From the start you need to set up a base for the dvr system and to keep track of where the other investigators are. There needs to be base EMF & Temp. readings of the whole location with and without the power on. Setting up of Ir cameras depends on what areas in the location needs to be covered. It’s normal that there will be more areas than cameras. It is important to keep one camera with sound on the base station. This will help you keep track of what happened through the investigation. Then you need a plan of what teams will do what in what area and try to mix up the 2 or 3 person teams. This helps keep the teams on there toes. Never let anyone go off by them self this is for safety & creditability. If they see anything it can’t be backed up. As for the investigation of areas, Rule 1 RESPECT! No not the song, RESPECT the living, the dead & the location. Ghosts were once people just like you & me. Ask them permission to take there photo and with EVPs introduce yourself and ask them to talk to you when you ask them a question give them a chance to answer 10 to 20 seconds  and say thank you when you are done. AS for Photos Just like on CSI keep a note pad or voice recorder to describe what’s going on and why you took the shot. EMF sweeps cover the whole room same with temps that way you can be sure that it’s not just a draft or a TV or other power source for high EMFs. If you find some thing try to find out what it is but don’t spend all night. It’s easy to get caught in the trap of reviewing evidence on site. This only takes away from your timeline. If you really need to discus something do it at base so it can be recorded. Remember just because an area has not had any known activity dose not mean you don’t have to investigate it. Rule 2 EVIDENCE everyone reviews and takes a turn sitting at base station. Just like a CSI we record everything, the base temp, the wind, moon phase, solar activity, electromagnetic field and anything we see on camera is put on paper (time, place and what we saw). Each investigator has his own sheet for collecting data (where they went, saw & did etc.) Rule 2.5 FAKE EVIDENCE we don’t make things up! (we are not on a TV show that needs ratings) once you lose your creditability it’s not something you get back.   Rule 3 SAFETY we want to investigate the paranormal not become it. Rule 4 NEVER TRESSPASS this is very important get written permission from land or business owner and don’t forget to thank them. Rule 5 PRIVACY we do not disclose a location. This is for two reasons, one to keep vandals from destroying the site. & two to respect the privacy of the owner.  Rule 6 CLEAN UP YOUR MESS don’t leave cans and other trash on the site. Rule 7 NO DRUGS OR ALCOHOL before or during an investigation. It affects the way you look at the site .Rule 8 NO SMOKING ON SITE. It just plain messes up evidence. Rule 9 BE PROFESSIONAL work in a manner that would reflect the integrity of the group. The most important thing in Research is remember we are still trying to prove that the paranormal is out there. Why we have rules and do thing the way we do is to prove beyond a shadow of doubt that what we see and feel is there. That's the scientific way, It’s more CSI or should we say Paranormal Site Investigaton than running scared in the dark. . Try to think would the evidence you found stand up in court

This page is geared for new people in the field and people who want to better understand Scientific Investigation hope it helps George R.
